THERAPEUTIC APPROACH
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Uses practical tools to notice and challenge unhelpful thought patterns so you can move from feeling stuck in your own head → thinking more clearly and responding with confidence.
CBT focuses on how your thoughts, emotions, and actions affect each other. We slow things down, identify the patterns that keep tripping you up, and work on changing the ones that no longer serve you. The goal is not positive thinking, but clearer thinking that helps you feel more in control.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Uses skills for managing emotions and stress to help you go from feeling overwhelmed or reactive → staying grounded and making better choices in tough moments.
DBT is especially helpful when emotions feel intense or hard to manage. It gives you tools to ride out stress, communicate more effectively, and respond instead of react. You can accept where you are while still working toward meaningful change.
Structural Family Therapy
Uses clear boundaries and healthier communication to help families move from constant tension or chaos → feeling more stable, connected, and able to handle challenges together.
This approach looks at how family patterns and roles shape day-to-day stress. Rather than focusing on blame, we work on adjusting how the family functions so expectations are clearer and everyone has room to breathe and grow.
A Practical, Solution-Focused Approach
The focus is on understanding what’s driving the struggle, building effective tools, and applying them in real life.

Skills you can use outside sessions
Ben’s work is collaborative, direct, and grounded in what actually helps people move forward. He draws from CBT, DBT, and Family Systems Therapy, tailoring each session to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all model.
Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Madsen loves playing with his 3 young sons, playing guitar and mandolin, powerlifting, Jiu Jitsu, and designing 3D prints.
These interests reflect the same mindset he brings into therapy: practice matters, progress is built over time, and meaningful change comes from showing up consistently.
